The difference being that you, as an adult, can go to a standard LEGOLAND park by yourself, but not to a LEGOLAND Discovery Center by yourself. It says on the page where you can buy tickets that adults need to accompany a child in order to enter (on the Discovery Center site, not the standard LEGOLAND site).

This isn't a LEGOLAND theme park policy, it's for the Discovery Center... Which is, apparently, aimed at a younger audience.

I can't confirm about before this incident, but if you try to buy tickets online, it states that "Adults must be accompanied by a child to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre."

I'm not sure how long they've been around, but there are ways to make an external source cause an internal explosion...
