Yeah, I was also surprised/impressed at how quickly the HTC Steam VR Headset seems to be legitimate competition for the Oculus.

This sounds cool, just kind of a bummer that you’ll still have to constantly watch your data usage. That’s no way to enjoy a smartphone. I can’t tell you how many friends I have that are like “Oh I’ll watch that youtube video when I get home” or “Can you use your phone instead? I’m out of data”.

That’s too bad... I wonder if the FCC can do anything for you. I bet Comcast has some kind of “up to ‘x’ mbps” fine print in there to protect them though.

I wonder if you might need a higher upload speed at home. I know the nvidia shield requires at least 5mbps up for playing outside your home network (I think they call it remote play).

I feel like I see this sort of thing in a lot of anime. Characters will go into an entire monologue to explain an emotion, when there are a million ways to imply it. I guess it’s just a cultural/style thing. Drives me crazy though.

At the time, my hardware was pretty good.. powerful PCs and a good router, the remote PC being on the 5Ghz band and the source PC connected locally. Hopefully they’ve done some stuff on their end. I was so excited when I first heard about it, telling all my friends “it’s the future!!”. Then I tried it, and the next

How is Steam streaming these days? Last time I tried it out it was just too laggy to use effectively. I believe I tried it on Dark Souls 2 and I just couldn’t get it to work smoothly enough.. but this was when it first came out in beta only.

Ha! I'm always using "the ladies are all up ons", "I wanna be the guy too", 'abbrev'ing biz cas fri, pronouncing cantaloupe 'cantaloopay', "a wagon fulla pamcakes!? in the champeenship!?"... and countless other references :) I was a huge fan back in the day.

Jailbreakers beware. I heard this update closes some exploits that Pangu uses.

Well.. if there is a high demand for Netflix and other services that soak up lots of bandwidth, it would encourage ISPs to actually improve their infrastructure. Then maybe we could catch up with the services/speeds of the rest of the world.

This is pretty cool- nice find. One thing I'm a little concerned about thought- I think read here on Giz or Lifehacker years ago that charging faster = more heat = reduced lifetime of the battery. Anyone know if that's true? Think this will cause any significant impact?

I am usually a big fan of bumpers. REAL bumpers, not the cases that call themselves bumpers but have a clear plastic back. I like to keep the phone as light as possible.

You know what these new Kindles seem to be missing.. audio features. The Kindle 3 would read any book out loud to you, and my wife used it all the time. I looked on the product page and I've read a few articles but I can't find any mention of this feature (or of any recent Kindles having speakers at all). Maybe I

I'm pretty sure tethering will work fine on Verizon if you have anything besides their old unlimited plan. If you do, they charge an extra $30 per month to enable the feature.

Yes. Mainly to enable tethering/hotspot on my phone without paying an extra $30 to Verizon (I have a grandfathered unlimited plan). Also iFile is fantastic.

Hmm.. I think you can go from a VZW iPhone to another carrier easier than you can the other way around (using a non-CDMA phone and going to Verizon).

I'm in the same boat. You think you could find one on eBay for $500? That would be pretty sweet.

My problem is that you can't pre-order a Verizon (CDMA) iPhone off contract (by paying the full retail value). On the Apple store, during the process of trying to pre-order, I get a warning that I will lose my unlimited plan unless I go in person to a retail store. On the Verizon Wireless page, the only options I get

Looks like you can't pre-order a CDMA (Verizon) iPhone off contract. For the past few years I was able to do this no problem.. how frustrating! You get a warning on Apple's site during the order process saying that if you want to do this and keep your unlimited data, you have to order in a retail store. Problem is..
