Tangentially related, but I was wondering if it's the woman declining sex that is most prevalent. I know in my situation, I'd the one often trying to initiate sex and then being shot down. I find it exceedingly frustrating, particularly having had sex multiple times a week in prior relationships.

Y'know, I never considered this. I like the idea. Of course, I didn't play any sports in school (though I did outside) and watched as my first school's failing football team squandered money that could've been spent on other academic pursuits — such as replacing textbooks that we decades out of date.

I think that it's attributed to being "normal" and "expected" behavior for boys, when it shouldn't. It's probably related to the idea that boys will be boys or that supposed grey area in which sexual assault occurs as a result of a lack of communication and not necessarily any ill intent.

I think that it depends a lot upon the area. My second high school did not have a football team (or a basketball team, now that I think about it). They elevated the lacrosse players instead.
