That's a good point. It seems like these numbers are greater than the average income, anyway - is the average American running a deficit? Wouldn't surprise me, but while I've seen numbers for debt, I'm not sure I've seen the equivalent numbers for outflow vs income.

I was thinking the no brainer here is if you're paying one set of rent/mortgage and utilities, you have more discretionary spending room. Obviously housing and utilities for two are more than for one, but they're usually not twice what it costs for one. Right?

Then there's the children of mixed couples. Very light skinned mom (friend of mine); much darker child; strangers who have apparently never heard of such things and can't keep their mouths shut.

I would hope it's pretty damn rare.

I bet Michelle Obama laughed herself silly when she heard about this, though.

Yes, louche is indeed the mot juste.

"Pretty for a dark girl." WTF.

I'm sorry, I stopped being able to follow you after my fourth glass of Merlot.

And I think on the other side, he's related to an evil Sudanese warlord. Fascinating family tree, that guy has. Gorgeous, too.

Not Odysseus, and "Od" for short?

I knew a Micheal. Not Michael, Micheal. I asked him once if he'd ever thought about correcting the spelling, when he was over 18, and he said it was more important to him to have the name spelled the way his mother chose than the way it's meant to be spelled. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.

What I am pointing out is that it seems that the editors failed to do their job on this piece, because the editing is generally (not globally) better in other guest pieces. Normally, one would perhaps assume that everyone has a lazy day and QA is poor. Given this site's track record with racism, the author, and the

The first letter I ever got from a boyfriend. Saved it for years, thought I was being silly and spring cleaned it away, and have regretted it ever since. Not because of him; because it was a part of a very long ago part of my life, you know?

You're telling your story, which is fine, and valid, and authentic. But your points about gender above are just communicating your lack of grounding in the vocabulary and vernacular of the literature that is emerging on these fields. There is nothing wrong with that, but I do wish you wouldn't generate and impute
