I watched it for the first time 6 months ago. I enjoyed it for what it was. One thing that you have to keep in mind is that it is a parody of 90’s soap operas just as much as it is a surreal drama. Even with that said, there are some storylines that border on painful.

There are multiple mentions in the Avengers regarding saving civilians. There is a realization that not everyone can be saved, but there are efforts to do so. At times the attempts to save civilians are more at the forefront than others, but it is there.
