Hm, I'd actually be ok with some really drastic changes not only swapping genders. Like making Ganon a girl and the hero of the Story with Wisdom, Zelda being the villain. Of course not as part as the main franchise because, it would be to drastic of a change for the general audience to swallow.

Of course, guiding a whole nation to its well being. Wisdom is the most important part, without it even Courage or Power isn't worth anything. That's why Link needs her help and Ganon wants her in the first place.

Not only does she help, she is the center of the whole franchise. She is the most fleshed out character and her power is what saves her in the end.

Zelda already is the strongest and full fleshed out character in the franchise.

Well she always did. Without her, Link would never be able to defeat Ganon.
