I always feel like the only person that actually really enjoyed FFVIII. Maybe I’m a sucker for weird card games and having a “salary”.

Oh I do agree the writing is weaker ins Cold Steel and that Rean is not near as good as Estelle. But much like Estelle it is nice to play a JRPG character that is confident and not whiny.

Have you checked out Trails of Cold Steel? They do have some common tropes but they are hands down the most fun I have had playing JRPG’s in ages.
