They talk about it in the end of the first book, but the movie skipped it. However, we see right in the beginning of CF (book and movie) that things aren't well between them and they have to pretend they're in love in front of everyone else.

She isn't aware of many things and it's hard to be smart when everyone around you has a secret agenda and is actively using you.

One of the first scenes show her trying to shoot an arrow into a turkey and missing it because she sees Marvel instead (when she shot him for throwing the javelin(?) that ended up killing Rue) and freaking out because of what she saw. Another one is having her run away from everything when she heard who the Tributes…
