Let's be honest, to call it strictly an improvement to the game is slightly offensive to its creators, and is only really applicable to the type of person who wishes it had a competitive scene like Melee.

God, I love that arcade game. I played it when I went to Japan, and it's way too hilarious. Could not stop cracking up at all the replays they kept showing... and then they showed it in slow motion. XD
