Hinduism doesn't have "official tenets". There are tons of scriptures out there, many schools of Hindu thought and philosophy, more recent sects and styles of worship etc. etc. For instance, the Vedas are our oldest books, but many sects do not focus on them and instead look at the Puranas.

Came to US before my first period, but on my trips back home, if I were on my period I could not enter a temple. Kitchens were fine.

I don't know. I've been to plenty of Indian weddings and have been told that its common courtesy to give enough to cover the meal and whatnot. Same with Chinese weddings. I don't think its an Eastern-Western thing.
