Here’s to Nick, Patrick Allan (RIP) and Emily Price, who chronicled every single moment of MoviePass’ wretched life and death on Lifehacker. Really heroic work.

The one problem I’ve had with the new Android Auto is that I hate having to scroll through a big menu to find the app you want to launch. The old navigation made it easier to find your audio apps. It wouldn’t be so bad if Auto gave you the option to remove apps you never use in the car from the menu. At least it does

I use dark mode everywhere possible: Desktop, mobile, reading ebooks, coding, Dark Reader for the web - the works. I love it. It takes some getting used to, but I’d never go back to glaring white backgrounds.

The thing about chat support (helpdesk, not customer service) is a tech can often diagnose a problem and have a solution ready before the user even finishes typing their request. It’s so much more efficient to see what’s being typed as it’s being typed.

you need a financial planner. The caveat is that if they manage your money, you have to be careful of the fees, those will cut in your retirement as much as inflation will. I was lucky to have a friend who does it for 1% compared to the 3% charged usually.

Or use my foolproof method: Don’t commit treason.

Most cars since the advent of electronic fuel injection cut fuel flow while under a engine braking/negative load scenario. For visual reference, if you’ve ever been in a car that displays “instant” fuel mileage, you’ll typically see the display go to 99.9 as the injectors aren’t firing.

I have never, ever heard that engine braking (or coasting in gear) is bad for any car. Who are you talking to that thinks that it is? Are you sure it’s engine braking that’s the question, or is it downshifting? On a manual, I rarely downshift because over time it’s extra wear on the clutch, transmission and the shift

seriously though why are these like $100+ again?

It’s a good practice to never use special characters or punctuation in your filenames; Apple even has a page devoted to this on their site. Some characters act as commands, which will hurt you if you run any scripted actions. Best case is your filename is just unreadable by another computer and it will swap in some

While I agree with the premise, if a friend responded to my coffee request with a formal proposal — I'd de-friend. I think a simple: "Sounds good. How about 2pm at Starbucks?" is sufficient.

Hell, it’s not even trickle down economics anymore. Apparently, you’re supposed to just be happy to be in the physical vicinity of that kind of money.

Great article, I know a bunch of people that could use this article. I just can’t convince them that task killers do nothing and they don’t have to keep their GPS and bluetooth off.

This option only toggles it for the selected file type. If you want it to search all, then you have to manually select each file and turn the setting on. Also, for many of the useful file types, this contents setting is already toggled (and has special indexing filters [MS Office, HTML, zip]). I would recommend if you

For those who suggested the songs in the Chill playlist . . . nicely done, everyone!

As a Brit, this is truly mind boggling. You still pay with your signature? That’s insane. I probably got my first card about 10 years ago, that was chip and pin. I’ve never signed for a purchase in my life. I’ve been using contactless cards for about 8 months now as well, which are just so easy. Anything under £20 (I
