And people saying that adults should not be responsible for harming in utero children but know they will carry them to term are hypocrites.

I have an overwhelming desire to be your friend.

I think the natives are so (rightfully) upset on the encroaches of women's health, access to abortions, birth control pills, etc that anything that an author can slant to be anti health for women of reproductive age is pounced upon as some grenade from the shitty GOP.

I'm a she! Go back to your magic crystal ;).

Lotto numbers to the next giant pot or I call foul ;).

I just want to say thank you for opening your heart and home to your son. My friends have also adopted children they were first foster parents for because the mother is an addict. She happily signed away her parental rights to them which has worked out for all parties involved. It doesn't do anything to pay for the

I just want to second this. People are calling me anti-choice because I said that addicts who harm their babies are bad. Give them all of the abortions. Life is beautiful and hard and starting out with an easily avoidable disability such as FAS and with shit parents will not make it much easier on a young child.

I'm glad you can read my mind! You should try to make a living off of this skill.

Yes, because children who are abused by 'mothers' do much worse off without them.

Because your blanket statements absolve addicts from doing very real harm to children. Medical professionals are sworn to provide life saving capabilities to anyone regardless of anything.

Not in so many words but the belief that a willing mother who chooses to carry her baby to term should not be held responsible for harming said baby is disgusting.

Medical professionals also have a sworn duty to operate on rapists, racists, terrorists, and other low lifes. Their job is to advocate for life at any and all cost.

Ok... so alcoholics should be able to drive drunk because they don't really mean to. It's the addiction.

"Addiction is a disease!!" it is. It also does not give you the right to endanger anyone else.

"n reality, we still don't really understand the effects of exposing fetuses to illegal drugs in the womb — obviously, it's better to not take drugs while pregnant, but selectively punishing for illegal narcotics use is both arbitrary and misguided. "

I don't really know how to shut on the vulnerable. Maybe you can tell me.

If I was unclear on my stance then please let me re-iterate. I am pro-choice and we can slam law-makers for shutting those options down left and right.

Until some FAS baby is born to a life of troubles and issues because his or her mother could not put down the bottle. Are you advocating that the child deserves to live a life on this planet with disfigurements as a direct result (and completely avoidable) of an addict?

I agree with you.

If you elect to have a child and willingly put that child at risk with drug/alcohol abuse then no, I don't feel much sympathy.
