But I don’t disagree completely.. they should have replaced the 737 with a clean sheet airframe!

The MCAS system is supposed to support the pilots when they are flying the jet. MCAS is not active when the plane autopilot (AP) is active.

In its original configuration, there wasn’t a direct way to disable MCAS while AP is off.

The whole MCAS system was added because the Max is inherently unstable as built.
But the MCAS can’t be overridden just by pulling harder on the stick.
