I always considered Sarah Jane my favorite classic companion, but recently I have had to admit that I find myself rewatching Leela’s episodes more often, so I guess she is actually my favorite (though it is very close).

A close second to Pertwee and Sarah Jane.  Close enough, in fact, that I’ll give it to you.

I prefer to keep the classic and nu Who rankings separate and say that Leela is my favorite classic companion, and Donna is my favorite companion from the new series. That way I don’t have to choose. (And in fairness the role of the companions in the old and new series are fundamentally different I think).
