Similar yes, but the difference is where the weight is. Aluminum beds/fenders/etc allow for the weight savings there to be redistributed to strengthen the frame or beef up drivetrain components, all of which is lower down on the chassis and improves driving dynamics. This also allows for a greater max towing capacity.
