That’s exactly the logic my anti-vax sister in law uses.

Uh...that’s a lousy analogy.

Yes, it’s impossible to live without alcohol, cheese, and smoked meats. We all live in wine bars.

The results of the study just show that FAS and other related problems are much higher, statistically speaking, than had been found previously. It’s not that we suddenly discovered booze ten years ago or that we haven’t improved our understanding of health for mothers/infants, it’s just that FAS etc isn’t a series of

This recommendation comes out of the statistic that 50% of American pregnancies are unplanned. It’s not that women shouldn’t drink, it’s that they need to be actively thinking about their reproductive plans. If you don’t want to be pregnant and you are also sexually active, the CDC encourages you to make a

Cue the “my so-and-so relative drank and her kid turned out fine” stories. No one knows the border between okay and not okay - it’s a risky game for something totally unnecessary. To be honest, if you can’t go without alcohol for this period of time then you might have a problem. Once the baby is born you can post on

But even with education and essay access, mistakes happen. And the issue is, the damage can be done in the window before most women would recognize they’re pregnant (if they’re not trying)

I commented to someone else that people on here would hijack this article. People just can’t deal with alcoholism and how men and women need to take responsibility for their actions. Which is basically what the CDC was saying. You guys just can’t deal with it.

It’s also possible that this is becoming more of an issue now because alcohol levels are so much higher. I really enjoy wine and craft beer, but I also hate getting drunk and have a super low tolerance. Before I have a second glass I have to check the alcohol content to make sure I don’t get sloppy drunk. Highly

There were NTs of course, keep in mind temperence was a huge movement during and pre mid-20th Century. And there was Prohibition and dry municipalities aswell during certain periods. And of course a great many people were so rural and dirt poor they couldn’t partake in getting alcohol. And didnt even have the elements

I’m a mom who doesn’t drink (anymore) and you would think I have 3 heads when another mom offers me a drink and I turn her down. “Wait...what? Why? Did something happen? Did you stop because you thought you had, like, a problem?” The questioning then becomes this: “Well, you have your soda water while the rest of us

This is an appeal to tradition - a logical fallacy - and also wrongish.

This is true, but also not drinking (i.e. a few sips total of less) can still tip the odds to the favorable.

Why are people so dead-set on being pregnant and drinking? Where do you stand on being pregnant and not wearing a seatbelt? What about being pregnant and using a power tool without proper eye protection?

I find that way too many people joke about excessive drinking in general. Alcoholism isn’t cute or funny, guys.

On a related note, I feel genuinely sorry for all my friends and neighbors who feel the need to drink wine just to get through the day with their families. Like, I get it. Ha, ha. So funny that your wine box is your adult juice box.

This is the hill you plan to die on??? lol. Not, “Jesus, America, get a grip on your alcoholism”....no! it’s the ol’ the “CDC ARE A BUNCH OF MORONS!” hot take!

Not if you repeat the mantra: “I’ll never die, I’ll never die.”

If it wasnt religion, it would be snake oil, or conspiracy theories, or something else. Or just general crazy. Religion didnt create people like this - its just that parts of it have gotten really good at harnessing their collective need to be idiotic for their own evil ends.
