The problem with high profile, high punitive cases like this is that they discourage people from seeking help. Which is something those of us who actively work with kids who are affected by drug and alcohol use during pregnancy are generally against because it DOES NOT HELP OUR KIDS.

Prior to the mid twentieth century infant mortality was just kind of a thing. I know of at least one case where a mother was only caught because she confessed to murdering nearly a dozen of her kids(later historians speculated that PPP had a role in her killing).

I don’t know how to explain to people like you that addicts are generally not capable of that level of organization.
