Excellent use of Franco Zeffirelli's "Romeo and Juliet" still. My mother went on a date with her first love (and the love of her life) to see that movie in the theater when she was in college. Don't think experiencing young love helped her be less neurotic, though.
Me. I am CarpeV...the Evanescent Hotshot
Surprisingly accurate.
Also, the D.C. Bro's job could be a staffer (pretty much anywhere) or an analyst at "the agency" (we never know which agency, probably all of them).
Can you possibly STOP changing her bloody name? It's Yulia. YULIA. Y, not J. If you are going to call Yuna Kim by her proper name and not Juna Kim, please extend the same curtesy to Yulia Lipnitskaya. Again, it's a y, not an i. I hate to be such a nitpick*, but it's really not that flipping difficult to check how…
Poor thing, I feel so bad for her! But she's young and amazingly talented, she'll have opportunities for Olympic gold in the future, no doubt.
OMG, you just described my ex-husband, who kinda looks like Maksim, if he were shorter and with an extra 40 pounds or so.
Fantastic! Thank you.
Thanks! Is it a specific one or are there a bunch of them? If it's a particular one, where is it?
Thanks for this! Planning a week-long trip to NYC in May with my sister that's coming for a visit from Russia. I'm trying to compile a nice long list of best places to eat on the cheap, since I am pretty much footing the bill for this little escapade. Any other suggestions?
OK, now I know what you mean. Thanks!
"Post-feminist era"? Gender specific pronouns, including the current she/her iterations, have been around for quite a few centuries, so I am a bit confused as to how this relates to "post-feminist era."
Every time I read about these new bullshit laws that are being passed there, it makes my heart hurt and makes me embarrassed to be Russian. Don't they realize that they are hurting the kids more than the adults? Yes, this definitely negatively affects gay couples and single people wanting to adopt. But in reality, if…
OMG, I thought the "no purse on the floor" rule was a Russian thing! Never heard of anyone else believing this bit of supestitious nonsense outside my Russian friends and family. Full disclosure: while I do rationally understand that it is indeed nonsense, I never put my purse on the floor if I can at all help it.
Yeah, I just found out about QAF being on Netflix and got all excited until a friend of mine told me not to bother with Netflix and dig out my DVD collections out of storage instead. Apparently A LOT of the music was changed, including some of the best/most important scenes. Whoever didn't secure the music rights is…
Not to nitpick, but....Oh, hell, I'll go ahead and nitpick. It's Russian Orthodox, actually.
Perfect gif is perfect. Oh, and I adore that outfit also.
Yep, like in Polish Misha/Mishka is short for Mikhail (Michael). So, the mascot's a male bear. And, yes, we call bears "Misha" or Mishka because it's kind of similar to the word medvet', which means bear.
I read your comment below regarding understanding a foreign language vs speaking it, with which I absolutely agree. Regarding the translation, it was actually top notch. Made me wish I still had the same skill, which I unfortunately lost a long time ago.
