This feels a bit disingenuous after that whole "JALOPS AGAINST SEXISM/CHICK CARS" furor we had recently.

Sounds like this really is the better 2CV. I mean, a hatch is always a huge plus in usability, and in cars that encourage a leisurely pace, comfortable seats are a must.

Wow that's... not a lot. Did you have to pay for a hotel or did you stay at Mate's place?

That's a Fiat 124. Basic, fairly spartan family car with some Italian pizazz thrown in. The Soviet Union licensed this and built it forever as the Lada we all know and loathe.

Now playing

Yeah, sadly no Mac release. But even on a PC, it's a pain in the ass to get working under anything newer than XP (it can be done though... only took me like 5 hours).

As Bunkie Knudsen and Bill Mitchell will confirm, there's no such thing as "too much hood". Much hood is why we all love the looks of classic American cars.

Gotta say, I never really liked those. The regular coupe is a q-ship whereas this... verges into late-70s Trans Am territory.

SUVs really are a blight in general. They offer pretty much the same interior space of an equivalently-sized station wagon, but because they're so tall and wide they weigh a lot more and naturally that means they use more fuel. All so some suburban dad can feel like a tough guy, or so some soccer mom can feel like her

It's funny, I kinda wish wagons would become less sporty and fancy again, move back to the utilitarian haulers they once were. I frequently have to haul large loads of timber and the like (I make cabinets and other furniture as a sort of monetized hobby) and it seems these days if you want a no-nonsense utilitary

If you care about MPG, definitely don't buy an SUV/Crossover. Their sheer size and weight is the killer when it comes to mileage. It doesn't really matter how advanced the technology is, the smaller car will always get better mileage.

Oh, I wasn't referring to the British people... more to Britain, the nation as pertains to its role on the world stage today. Which, as you noted, is grossly at odds with any posturing of the days of yore.

I'm a woman and I'd like to see a woman's prespective on Top Gear? Plus all the jokes about women, which are Clarkson's domain especially, would go over a lot better if there was a woman there to rib him right back. With three dudes, it's just the same old "am I right, guys?" echo chamber.

I get that. I'd still like the show better if it were "nerdier" and more about the cars as such. I'd happily trade in some of the glitzy production values for that.

Sorry to step on your toe there mate, but when a small clique of other EU nations pushes through the candidate for presidency your government and people expressly did not want, despite all your flailing and angry protesting, it seems like the villains of yore are running the show these days...

Good point, but therein (the balance) lies part of the problem, I think. Clarkson seems like he's increasingly playing a fictional version of himself, which exaggerates the things that irk me about him, in order to fit a preconceived narrative.

I mean, he will have to retire eventually right? I think Clarkson could really improve things by going back to actually being himself. He seems more and more like a fictional version of himself, serving the show's narrative more than anything else.

Problem is, the last 2 seasons these moments were few and far between. He used to be this good on the regular. Plus, I miss Old Top gear Clarkson, when he was more himself and less playing a character named Jeremy Clarkson.

Unpopular opinion: as a woman, I would like Top Gear better without Clarkson. James May is a grizzled, kooky delight. Hammond never quite left the 90s it would seem, but he's a fun guy and someone has to stick up for us Americans.

As a woman who would very much enjoy an S2000, let me tell you that an S2000 is definitely not the choice of most women. Most of my good friends don't really care about cars, but I know one who really, really loves her truck - an F-350 King Ranch.
