None of the backlash is Ridley’s fault. She did great work with the material she was given. It’s just that the material she was given for episode 9 was bad fanfiction that was more interested in retconning the previous, better movie than it was in telling its own story.

I was like ‘Where’s the love gone?’“

Daisy Riddley is a good actress and seems like a nice person.

I thought the backlash to “The Rise of Skywalker” was more focused on the decisions made by the people writing and editing the film than anything.

“photons, or microscopic particles that emit light”

I would even say it leans in the opposite of this unfortunate trope by leading to the de-fridging of lost loved ones.

Exactly. We have a long tradition of heroic and tragic narratives in which the characters deaths are part of what makes them iconic. While fridging women in this genre is very much an issue, I’ve never seen this as an example of it.

I think the subtext is that Natasha loves the Avengers as her family, and is sacrificing herself for them. She is doing the opposite of what Thanos did, which was a selfish act.

I dunno, I kinda liked the scene in the original where she and Hawkeye fight to see who gets to sacrifice themselves. Neither wanted the other to go but more than that neither wanted to not save the other from having to die. This is a fine action scene and I do like the idea that Thanos is more actively pursuing them,

Not just wholesome, but with a thought-out world, and with characters who consider their responses.

Now playing

I’m sorry, but without the possibility of Peter Ustinov being the voice of Prince John, how can a remake be anything but worse?

DId you read the article

With no io9 articles that were filed to Pathfinder since 2015, I’m glad to see an article that is filed to Pathfinder. Thanks for acknowledging that Paizo does good work with their fictional settings.

Good point. Its not our industry to bail out. Let the Panama, Bahamas, and Bermida bail them out!

It’s as though the flag of convenience suddenly has become an inconvenience.

I definitely think it’s one tourist industry we can let die. That and hiking Mt. Everest. You wanna talk about polluting and defacing one of the wonders of the world?... Everest trekkers are some of the worst.

Also they spread all sorts of disease and sometimes there is shit pouring down the walls.

A million times this. They registered in random island nations to avoid paying taxes and so they could pay their workers next to nothing. Fuck em. Hope they all go belly up.

While some resort destinations would see a huge economic loss, nearly everyone else would be better off if cruise ships all died.

No article on cruise lines is complete without mentioning how much they pollute, and how often they get caught dumping trash at sea.
