I can’t wait to not watch this.
I can’t wait to not watch this.
American history is full of us not repaying our debts, stiffing allies due to inconvenience, making false promises, and undermining the freedoms of others due to the petty geopolitics of the moment.
I mean, this is just based on a quick google search, so it may be wrong, but there are apparently Roman letters describing how many Celts and germanic tribesmen wore their hair ‘like snakes’. Which is something I didn’t know until just a few minutes ago!
Man, the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons. Ah, the memories.
I suppose I’m uncomfortable making audience reaction comparisons to ESB because honestly, none of us were there. We can pick apart some critical responses, and a few fan reactions, but audience expectations and the public’s relationship with film media in general were a bit different than what they are today. Big…
This is exactly the sort of discourse I wish more people could have about TLJ. Respectful arguments.
Which refutes nothing of what I said. Han telling us that Luke blamed himself for what happened is just another “what”. What’s missing is “why”. WHY did Luke go from someone who believed he could redeem the worst person in the galaxy, to a man who would even think of killing his own nephew merely because he ‘sensed’…
I hear you, but your use of the phrase “subvert expectations” is pretty broad and loose here. As you say, the OT was based largely on serials from two decades prior, making it more in line with a nostalgia revival than a subversion. You can blur the line between those things pretty easily, and if you follow that…
I get what you’re saying now. I thought you were saying that TLJ could stand on it’s own, but that was just me misinterpreting.
Disagree. TLJ can’t stand alone, which is part of my larger point: the praise it gets is almost entirely held up by the meta that pervades it. Even the films core messaging is more a response to what came before, than a message about anything universal.
I’ve watched a lot of critique videos about TLJ, and I literally can’t recall one that places Luke’s dislike of the Jedi in the front seat of their issues with the movie. The issue with Luke was his 180 degree turn from a hopeful redeemer to a cowardly exile who didn’t even try to save his own nephew without a…
I used to play DnD with a guy who ‘admired’ the WW2 German army a little too much back in the day, but it was never front-and-center and always just alluded to as a passing historical interest. Years later I went to visit him to game with him again, and now he’s got a Nazi flag flying bold as fuck right there in his…
One left wing shooter vs. how many right wing shooters?
Let’s see... if I had to choose... hmmm... all of these are bad, but I suppose if I was going by just what was written here, I’d maybe say that Raymond doesn’t sound so bad compared to the others?
This is good parenting.
Assuming some extreme horrible person gets installed, I say when 2020 rolls around, if we get back into a majority, I say: pack the court. Add more seats.
Legit lol, thanks for that :D
I agree, man.
And what bill would that be? There are several floating around. Is there one that’s clean, which isn’t loaded down with a bunch of other ridiculous stuff?
My God-Emperor... that’s amazing!
