In downstate IL we also call it soda. When I was a kid, it was not unheard of for any kind of soda to be called coke, but I don’t hear that much these days.

I never got bent out of shape about the SRT-4/Neon thing, but it does make me wonder, did people argue about whether it was an Impreza or a WRX, etc.? Maybe they did. It’s kind of a dumb argument. I mean the one is a subset of the other in both cases.

Wasn’t Ralph Gilles CEO of Dodge at one point, and not just head of design?

“I thought that if the world was going to end we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something. That’s what they told us in the army.”

In fairness, a whole lot of them were bought by people...a lot younger than me...and they tended to do dumb things, beat them up, and wreck them left and right. I was 37 with 3 kids when I bought mine, already a long-time turbo Mopar guy, and I knew what I was getting. I’d been waiting a long time for Dodge to put a

Yeah, for me it’s my SRT-4. It’s always been a super-fun little car. I bought it new and have over 240K miles on it now. Mine’s both a little more wild and a little more tame than stock. With some simple but judicious suspension changes, Stage II turbo upgrade and BWS turbo, light-weight forged wheels, and full

You must be in a low-humidity location? 83 degrees here takes your breath away when it’s humid.

For a similar but slightly different flavor, I bet you could use smoked mayonnaise instead of cream cheese. When I was coming up with my own onion dip recipe, I found that some mayo was just the thing it needed to give it the flavor I was looking for. Some smoked paprika might be good in there, as well.

Arby’s gyro looks at least twice as good as this Potbelly thing.

Because you commented about soda on a post about sandwiches. You probably meant to comment on the post about Latin American sodas. It’s because of the way Kinja shows multiple posts sequentially sometimes. (I think—I use some browser plugins that keep it from doing that.)

I don’t remember them by that name, but I do remember a Druther’s in DuQuoin when I was at SIU in the 80s. According to Wikipedia, they changed their name to that.

Apollo’s Cafe in Salem. You probably came through here if you went down I-57.

We have a local place (downstate IL) that in addition to their gyros have another item they call a “gyaco”. Same ingredients but in a flour tortilla instead of pita. I honestly find them more tasty, because there’s a better balance of ingredients. There’s just to much bread component with a pita, IMO. Another bonus of

I enjoyed The Ramen Girl. Pretty good movie on several levels, and lots of ramen, of course, as well.

I just watched Holy Grail last night! It had been a while since I’d seen it, and I’d forgotten how wonderfully weirdly funny it is.

I feel like you’re allowed to do basically anything you want with Taco Bell food. Now if you were sucking the filling out of some good shawarma or something, then you might have a problem.

Not to mention that if there’s to be talk of ripping off, the Big Mac was partly a response to the Whopper in the first place.

Oh, this reminds me of the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in real life! I was at a reception my company threw at a trade show we were attending. A small group of us were standing around a guy from another company telling a long but entertaining story about going to college in a town that had a cream pie factory. It was

Yep, to tell this story one more time... I drove a manual Chevette of this vintage in college in the 80's, and it was pretty crappy. One day on my way to class, I tried to downshift and the entire shifter came off in my hand. The spot welds holding the mechanism to the floor all failed.
