A lot of things that might be in birdseed mix are technically grasses. Wheat and even corn are in the grass family.
I’ve told this story here before, but in college I was driving a Chevette (~1979 model or thereabouts). One morning on the way to class, I was downshifting coming to a stoplight, and the gearshift came off in my hand. Not just the knob, the entire stick. The spot welds holding the mechanism to the floor had all come…
When our kids were little, CiCi’s was a great deal. Back then it was $2.99 for their all-you-can-eat. You did have to pay for a drink, too, but it was still a really cheap way to get a lot of food.
Our oldest daughter lived in Bosnia for two years, so I first had cevapi when we went to visit her there. That and sirnica (kind of similar to spanakopita) were my favorite Bosnian foods. Our daughter was studying there, and she and her classmates made up a funny song about cevapi that they sang during the graduation…
Yep, microwave is the way to go! About 2 minutes per ear. Take it out and cut at the stem end, then just squeeze the ear out. Virtually all the silk stays with the husk. There’s no easier way to get a perfectly cooked, silk-free ear of sweetcorn.
Wow, I was about 12 when that came out, and I can still remember almost all the lyrics. The brain is a strange thing.
I’m not a big horror fan, but the original Lake Placid was surprisingly good. The sequels are pretty terrible.
I can agree with the Taurus. My parents have a 2012 Taurus, and my wife and I have a 2016 Fusion. There’s clearly more interior space in our Fusion than in the Taurus, especially rear legroom. The Fusion is the first Ford I’ve owned since the ‘80s, and I’m really happy with it. It’s the 2.0L EcoBoost, fairly loaded,…
If you have tilt-to-wake enabled, then battery usage is going to vary a lot depending on what you do with your hands. I have a Fossil Gen 6, still currently running Wear OS 2. If I’m sitting at my desk working, it rarely activates by tilt-to-wake, and the battery lasts a long time. If I wear the watch and work in the…
This odd little place in the middle of nowhere is famous for having one of the best burgers in Illinois. https://www.moonshineillinois.com/
I’m about the same age as you; I was 11 then. The thing I guess I remember most is actually from The Empire Strikes Back. There were rumors about Vader being Luke’s father (I guess from magazines?), but they were pretty much dismissed by us kids. I remember leaving the theater thinking, “Huh! The rumors were true!”
How is immunotherapy supposed to work in the first place? I mean, I’m exposed to the the things I’m allergic to all the time anyway. Why doesn’t that build up an immunity to them?
Just a reminder about Y2K: it only turned out not to be a big deal because we programmers and other tech people worked hard for years to make sure it would turn out not to be a big deal.
Doesn’t the Pixel 5 pretty much match those specs? I recently upgraded to a Pixel 6, and while I like it, it is slightly too big. I miss the fingerprint sensor on the back a bit, too. That was a super-convenient place for it to be.
Only way to go! Tossed in olive oil and a little more salt than you would think necessary, then grilled. I planted an asparagus bed for the first time this spring. It’s looking good so far. All the crowns sprouted, and most of them have two shoots so far. No harvesting this year, or maybe even next year, until they…
I use OR and pop on the stove. I’m a weirdo that actually likes a few burnt bits mixed in to add a slight bitterness to the flavor, so with that little added time to slightly burn some of the popcorn, I virtually never have any unpopped kernels. I’ve used ghee and found that it’s very good for popping corn, but for…
It took a few episodes to find the right tone. My wife and I enjoy it.
Believe it or not, they even sometimes put tubes in an adult’s ears. My dad, at the age of 77, had tubes put in because of a bad infection. Unlike when my daughters had tubes put in when they were very young, they didn’t use general anesthesia for dad. The doctor told him, “This is going to hurt...a lot.” And it did.
