Also “Reindeer Chow” around Christmastime, when it’s often made.

I’m glad you mentioned that it’s supposed to be equal amounts of fat and flour by weight. I had always heard when I was younger to use equal amounts, and I used to worry that I always had to add a lot more flour to make it come out right. At some point I either heard or read that it is supposed to be by weight. (very

You have me thinking of all sorts of things now. French fried onions, crushed Doritos or Cheetos. The possibilities are endless!

Less than 2 gallons in the biggest one? We have an old Holmes 4-gallon unit in our bedroom, but on a cold day we can go through 5+ gallons easily, and still struggle to get the humidity above 40%. I recommend using some good humidifier water conditioner, as well. It not only helps with mineral build-up, but also can

I did that with my turkey gravy and turkey soup this year, too. I forgot to put a squeeze of lemon juice in the soup, though, so even with the gravy it ended up tasting a bit flat. It’s amazing how a little lemon juice brightens up chicken or turkey noodle soup. You want just enough that when you eat it you think,

I’m not a chemist (although my dad was, and I did take a few chem classes), but the way I understand it is the sodium ions in the baking soda paste bind with the smelly sulfur compounds from the garlic, and then you can wash them away. It’s the same reaction that makes salt (also sodium ions), stainless steel (the nick

Arby’s has some wraps that are kind of like that. I just had a Creamy Mediterranean wrap the other day, and it was extremely messy but pretty tasty. And a surprisingly reasonable number of calories, even.

If Arby’s would give me a couple of packets of their three-pepper sauce, I could put it on a hash brown from McDonald’s. That three-pepper sauce has some really nice flavor, without being excessively spicy.

Ha! To strudel should absolutely be a verb! I had two years of German in high school, so I can’t say I speak German, only remember a few words and bit of grammar. Last night I had a dream that I was in a German restaurant trying to figure out how to ask for the bill. All I could come up with was German for, “Can I

I’ve mentioned here before about having once followed One Lap of America as part of a media crew. That trip as a passenger in a Honda Element (1st-gen I think) was tough. There was a huge amount of legroom in the 2nd row, really an amazing amount. But almost everything else about that vehicle was really uncomfortable.

Interesting. I’ve heard of the tradition but never done it. And I am in the Midwest, FWIW. Definitely remember seeing blown glass pickle ornaments when I was a kid.

We used to serve hot Dr. Pepper in the concession stand at our high school football games in the ‘80s in Illinois. It’s pretty tasty on a cold night, honestly.

I dunno. They may not be as well-known or successful, but A&W drive-in restaurants have been around for more than 100 years, far longer than almost all other fast food chains.

The records on the box were the first thing I thought of. We’re old! :)

My dad raised Scotch pine Christmas trees as a hobby/side hustle for about 25 years. It was not a small operation, as he had about 20,000 trees in the ground at one point. Scotch pine was the best choice for the clay soil around here. I’ve always thought it a little funny that to be Christmas trees Scotch pines have

Besides what’s been mentioned, a little sliver of smoked salmon, a few capers, and a sprinkle of dill on a deviled egg is very good.

Years ago, when our kids were little and we lived several states away from our parents, our daughter was talking to my mom on the phone. She was about 4 or 5 years old, and she told my mom, “Granny, you need to stop sending us junk we don’t need.” Yikes! That was one of our first “little pitchers have big ears” moments

They forget we’re the ones who created the internet. :)

Oh, I don’t disagree. I’m there for my mom, but it does really start to wear and get old to keep doing this over and over. There needs to be some mutual respect, as I say in my reply to the OP below (or above? who knows where Kinja puts this).
