Interesting. I’ve heard of the tradition but never done it. And I am in the Midwest, FWIW. Definitely remember seeing blown glass pickle ornaments when I was a kid.

We used to serve hot Dr. Pepper in the concession stand at our high school football games in the ‘80s in Illinois. It’s pretty tasty on a cold night, honestly.
I dunno. They may not be as well-known or successful, but A&W drive-in restaurants have been around for more than 100 years, far longer than almost all other fast food chains.
The fact that they’re not backed up, even in encrypted format, already bit me a few months ago. I had moved my vaccination card photos and some travel documents there, and then eventually I needed to reset my phone. It’s not like I couldn’t take new photos, but I lost the ones I had put there. :(
Thanks, I missed that.
Dunno. I have the latest version of Edge according to the about screen, but it doesn’t do anything weird when I download either Chrome or Firefox. None of these messages. Does it only do this with Windows 11 or something?
The records on the box were the first thing I thought of. We’re old! :)
My dad raised Scotch pine Christmas trees as a hobby/side hustle for about 25 years. It was not a small operation, as he had about 20,000 trees in the ground at one point. Scotch pine was the best choice for the clay soil around here. I’ve always thought it a little funny that to be Christmas trees Scotch pines have…
Besides what’s been mentioned, a little sliver of smoked salmon, a few capers, and a sprinkle of dill on a deviled egg is very good.
I expect what’s happening around here is playing out all around the U.S. this weekend:
Years ago, when our kids were little and we lived several states away from our parents, our daughter was talking to my mom on the phone. She was about 4 or 5 years old, and she told my mom, “Granny, you need to stop sending us junk we don’t need.” Yikes! That was one of our first “little pitchers have big ears” moments…
They forget we’re the ones who created the internet. :)
I haven’t been familiar with Cowboy Bebop beyond the name, but the things I’ve heard about it lately reminds me of Killjoys, which I enjoyed. Are there similarities, so that I would probably also enjoy CB?
Oh, I don’t disagree. I’m there for my mom, but it does really start to wear and get old to keep doing this over and over. There needs to be some mutual respect, as I say in my reply to the OP below (or above? who knows where Kinja puts this).
I obviously wasn’t talking to you directly. But there needs to be some mutual respect between both parents and kids in this matter. My wife and I are firmly sandwich generation right now. Our kids are in their 20s and 30s; our parents are in their 70s and 80s. My father-in-law has been living with us for the past year…
Don’t expect me to rush to the E.R. with you at 1 a.m. then, when you’re having intestinal problems because you don’t have a gall bladder, but still just eat any old greasy damn thing you please.
One year for our company white elephant gift exchange, I bought a toilet seat and painted holly leaves and berries on it. I told them it was a “redneck Christmas wreath.”
Effective ad and tracker blocking is one of the main reasons I still root my phone. Drives me crazy when I have to use a mobile device that doesn’t have ad blocking. I don’t know how anybody can deal with it.
Ooo! I have a bag of this stuck away to bring out when the family gets here tomorrow. Can’t wait! :D
Somehow, this doesn’t sound that weird to me. There’s also steak tartare, a raw meat dish that’s usually considered a delicacy. Tons of people eat raw oysters. And reading this it occurred to me that I myself ate raw fish for lunch today. Still, I do love me some carbs in addition to meat!
