Ah, I’m glad I read this far! I think you expressed exactly what I was thinking.
I was inspired by a beloved movie this weekend: I wanted to use some zucchini and decided to try making ratatouille. It came out pretty good! I’d make it again, but I will seed the eggplant next time. The recipe I was consulting said to peel and seed the tomatoes, which I did, but it didn’t specify on the eggplant.
History, for some reason. You would think it would be Discovery.
I’m in zone 6b, so it gets cold here. The rosemary is the Arp variety, which is the only one that might survive here. We had rosemary when we lived in Texas that thrived with basically no care, so I’m hoping the Arp will do that here. The sage will be no problem; I took it from a family member nearby, where it’s…
I like the chicken itself in that. I wish you could just get that flat chicken cutlet in a regular sandwich bun.
You can buy it on Amazon, although some quick searching only shows it available in combo packs with 1 or 2 of their other sauces.
Ah! I planted an herb garden this year, and I have a small crop of rosemary, oregano, sage, and basil. The first three are varieties that I hope will survive the winter and be perennial. But I had been wondering about how to more effectively use them, and somehow I never thought of drying them. Which seems silly now,…
I just wish it wasn’t my kids who are probably going to have to suffer through the worst of it. Being a computer guy, and knowing a bit about how complex dynamic systems work, it’s honestly starting to feel like there’s a very small but non-zero chance the entirety of human civilization could crash in our lifetimes. :(
Oh, I watch that, too. :) This past season there was the guy who built that awesome cabin. I thought having that really good shelter might let him win, but he was taken out by the mental game.
I watched the first hour, but I can’t take it. I was cringing too much. I like watching the “normal” Naked and Afraid, probably mainly to shout at the TV, “Build a simple fireplace to protect your fire from the rain!” and, “That shelter isn’t adequate for how cold it’s going to be tonight!”
Agreed. We usually have a box of Cheez-Its on hand.
What a weird partnership. I’m not a huge Goldfish fan, although my kids who all born in the 90s liked them. Jalapeño Popper Goldfish seems like something I might try, though.
Woo, I would love for forgotten potatoes to turn into a dessicated version of themselves. Around our house they seem to turn into liquid. The most evilly foul-smelling liquid imaginable. :-/
Probably one of the highest-end restaurants I’ve been to was Lola in Cleveland. I made a point to try the crispy bone marrow appetizer. It was the first time I’d had bone marrow. It was interesting and good, but I’m not sure I’d get it again. It’s sooo rich. It definitely needs something to offset the fat.
I think there are quite a few types of green olives. I love the common pimento-stuffed ones typically just labeled “Spanish olives” at the store (which I think are Manzanillas?). But I’ve had some other large green olives, sometimes stuffed with almond or garlic or other things, that have a really unpleasant taste to…
Ha, it sounds like descriptions of me and my wife. She has always been the list-maker and matches those other traits, while I’m the opposite in many respects. On the other hand, as I get older (55) I increasingly have to make lists, or else I forget things too easily.
Although some people would argue if it’s really shawarma, you can also simply season up your chicken and grill it or even oven roast it and slice it. It’s going to taste very similar and delicious, especially grilled.
It took me a minute. All the stars to you!
