I also wonder how much of this obnoxious insistence that he get your attention comes from some creepy desire to control you.

Note that neither of these refusals involve the word “no.” They are, to most of us, nonetheless clear. They include a number of tactics that many of us recognize: delay; prefaces or hedges (uh, well …); palliatives like appreciation; and explanation. The last is interesting: explanations usually go like this: “I…
The other day I was outside eating my lunch and reading and this dude comes up to me, on his phone, asks the guy on the phone to hold on a sec, and then asks me if he and his two kids can share the table with me. I don’t answer for a second, just look at him, and say, “Well, I’m reading so... if you’re not doing…
Sometimes you’ve got to embrace being a boss bitch and put a motherfucker in his place. And if your ex is continually pushing against your boundaries, then his place is on the Nope Train to Fuck This Shitville.
I may not have much to say regarding these situations, but if I have to say anything about these posts...
I was really hoping someone would be so self-involved as to turn a larger issue into an anecdote about a unique personal experience that does nothing to change any of the points made in the post. Thanks!
But how many times do they interrupt random dudes reading something to strike up a convo? They know that shit is rude. They know they are “interrupting” — just like continually trying to talk to someone with headphones on. They know this person isn’t really trying to talk to them but the female-ness overcomes the…
“Please leave me alone” has a great chance to arouse his anger. There is no winning here.
Except for usually if someone is stupid enough or rude enough to talk to you while you’re clearly not interested...they are usually the type of person to either KEEP trying after you say that, or get angry and harass you.
Maybe men should get better at that.
Hey there.
obligatory WOMEN’S EXPERIENCES ARE FAKE BCUZ IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE I DON’T ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT SEXISM IS reply
Except she wasn’t really lamenting overworking in that part so much as how she was treated as a woman trying to have a career. The treatment of working women IS a problem, and it’s a problem in industries far beyond gaming.
Plus, with a knife, you have to get right up there next to the victim. You might see the fear in their eyes. You might feel the knife’s resistance against their bones and tissue. Guns make people disconnected from the humanity of their victims in a way that knives and baseball bats don’t.
Don’t worry everyone, I’m sure some of GM’s one-issue assholes will be along presently to remind us that an amendment passed 200+ years ago by slave-owning misogynist pricks is more sacrosanct than these lives.
Guns make it easier to go on killing rampages. Let’s just admit that. Knives are harder to use to kill a lot of people in a short period of time. Bombs can do the samething but it requires some knowledge of how to make them. Guns are easier to use and get a hold of.
When I was a kid, everyone made fun of me for thinking Digimon were cooler than Pokemon.
Great article. Women’s health is still a very understudied field unfortunately. My experience with the pill was from ages 15-21; I started having sex around the same period I first took the pill, so it’s not until after I decided to stop taking it that I realized my libido was naturally higher and cyclical than I…
Most robbers don’t beat their victims to the ground, *then* shoot them execution style. That’s not really what “gone bad” means.
