Eh? What suburbs aren't so bad? The entire area is really very spendy, especially Marin. But regardless of the direction (Peninsula, East Bay), it's nearly impossible to buy a home in a decent neighborhood for under $400,000. I suppose if you consider Vallejo or Antioch suburbs of SF, those are pretty reasonable...

Not gonna happen. There is no way the Greens can push something that would be so hugely unpopular without a lot of help, and no coalition partner will go along with it. Any time such public discussions along these lines come up in Germany, there is wayyyy too much resistance to the idea.

Hmm, my last 2 rental car experiences actually convinced me to add those vehicles to the list of potential "next cars". A Grand Marquis (don't laugh - I'm 6'5"!!) and a Ford Escape (don't laugh - I'm 6'5"!!)...
