It didn’t have feminist in the title, but I know that’s how I, the other commenters and the writers thought of it, as a feminist site that was safe for women to comment on. Without the typical body snarking and mansplaining prevalent in other sites.

Really? I know you like them as people, and I do too, but sometimes you gotta call out your own friends sometimes. Some commmenters are not even being that aggressive about it. More like “Yo, maybe its kinda uncool? I dunno, what do you guys think?”
Uhm, hey. Reader who “doesn’t comment” here. The complete rejection of dissent exhibited by Jezebel writers on this thread has lost it at least one faithful reader and ally. I know you don’t care (afterall, I’m just an “internet rando”), but I betchya will when your bosses finally find a writer who’s capable of…
Perfect timing, and perfect example of the thin-skinned nature that Jez writers seem to have for whatever reason. There’s never any civil discussion with commentors who have legitimate issues with the writing. They just shut it down with snark and insults. It’s really lovely.
It used to be a feminist site, with no body snarking allowed. And the authors used to engage in discussions. But not these two princesses.
You are an asshole. Your behavior toward your readers is consistently shitty, and you come across as a huge jerk. This site would be much better without your ‘contribution’.
Has your account been hacked? Do you know that you are quitting tomorrow and just want to burn this shit to the ground? Why on Earth would any reasonable, professional person respond to their audience this way?
Very professional response to criticism. </ sarcasm>
Jezebel is being mean because Clover and Kara are mean people, who only care about issues which directly affect them. As evidenced by their response to everyone’s valid concerns.
What’s confusing is your need to comment on our comments when you are not addressing our valid points. Also, you didn’t even write this article. Why do you guys even read the comments then? Just to scan for compliments and flattery?
Jezebel writers suck at taking criticism.
No problem! I’ll see myself out. I’ve been a reader of gawker sites since 2001. No más.
I thought the purpose of Jezebel was to “make the sort of women’s magazine we’d like to read” ... we’re the readers... for a feminist blog to promote the takedown of women isn’t a funny concept. Sure, you don’t have to take cues from your readers, but should you offend them and then get snippy when they point out it’s…
I’m also a longtime jezebel reader who is commenting for the first time. I agree with The Original Piedmont Blues and the other 92 people who have starred the OP’s comment. There was no call for the snark, and no call for the unprofessional behavior.
How about none of you who work at Jezebel seem like you can actually take any sort of valid criticism of your work without turning into whiny children about it. Part of being a professional in any line of work is that you’re going to be criticized from time to time. That’s just what it’s like to be an adult, man. I…
Yeah, it’s not like we’re the reason you have a job. Since when is Jezebel good on body snarking? I’ve been here since day 1, and it’s always been considered inappropriate here. Is this what you and Clover are bringing to the table? Then whoever hired you needs a good talking to.
I’m not an internet random. I’m a reader of your website. So is everyone else in this thread. This blog is meant to be a spot where women are empowered. If you look at the replies to this thread, a number of women who are tall feel that the writer was marginalizing their struggles with having atypical body types.…
Oh yeah. Definitely scummy, but par for the course. Jez offered to buy un-retouched Lena Dunham photos and they still get persnickety when readers bring that one up...
If you’re gonna do scummy things sometimes, at least do us a favor and own it. This article reminds of the recent one about maxi dresses. Lots of people…
My favorite part to your thoughtful response was how much time you put into it. Capitalization, punctuation, the whole shebang!
I have to agree with the other commenters, why the snark against tall women? As though they are not marginalized enough? Or are you just incapable of sympathizing with anyone’s problems that aren’t also yours?
