Sadly, it makes perfect sense. Something people often forget; console platform exclusives aren’t just about some misguided attempt at forcing people to buy said platform. It’s about control.

It’s really not enough for these big companies to sell you a product. They want to be the gatekeeper for all such products; they

I actually have a dual-boot system here, with XP still installed. I mostly game now on Windows 7, but the fact is... certain things *still* run better (or run, period) on Windows XP.

And I suspect it will be *years* before Windows 10 becomes minimum spec for PC gaming (beyond ridiculous “please upgrade to 10!”

“I think they’re doing fine without Quantum Break in their store,” he said.

But is Quantum Break doing fine without Steam? All these quotes make him sound like an utter fool in a state of denial. It is very much the other way around - they are shooting themselves in the foot, missing out on a whole lot of money, by

Hah, okay, I guess we were thinking along the same lines in fact >.<

I find it interesting that people aren’t talking about this in the context of the new Battlefield game’s setting.

The Great War was a truly terrible, utterly pointless meat grinder of a conflict full of unspeakable horrors.

But hey, let’s remember it by letting teenagers bunny-hop through the midst of that nightmare,

Well, the thing is, after you’ve played a few levels you begin to realise that maybe things aren’t exactly what they seem and maybe there’s more to it than just shooting red guys an#~!SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER HOT SUPER

Most of the others are just saying stuff like “Yup, there’s <insert character.”

Which has little to do with the *art direction*. Neither does you playing them online. Personally, I’ve been playing Quake 1 and 2 all week as map research for a Doom 2 wad, and this does not look like higher-poly Quake to me. This looks

What are you even talking about? Skyrim had very, very low detail textures. So much so that they released an HD texture pack for PC.

I can tell you right now, The Witcher 3 has way higher texture detail. Hell, The Witcher *2* had higher texture detail.

Man, Oblivion had its issues, but it wasn’t nearly as dumbed down as Skyrim - it was closer to Morrowind in that regard. You could still actually craft spells, for one thing.

Personally, I’d rather they made a game more like Morrowind in general. Morrowind wasn’t geographically huge, it was just very detailed (remember

Wait, are you serious? The physics framerate issue is present in Fallout 4 as well? (haven’t played it).

That problem was in Skyrim - if you had vsync disabled and your framerate went up too high, all the contents of rooms would explode when you opened a door. And the world streaming wouldn’t work right - you’d end up

Easy prediction - it’ll have some cool ideas, but overreaching and a low budget will mean that it becomes a minor cult hit at best. We have yet to see a “nearly infinite universe” in a game that genuinely pulls it off without giving the player billions of empty systems (*cough*Elite*cough*)... and that’s just with

Yes, because numbers are a clear indicator of the validity of sentiments. Clearly, history shows us that when lots of people agree with something, it must be right and worthy of acceptance without further debate.

It *looks* extremely Gears of War/Unreal Tournament. I can see the attempted Quake references, but the art style is (like the new Doom) far too sleek and sci-fi. Quake 1 and 2 were both incredibly low-tech (in terms of aesthetic), all about rust and dust. Quake 3 added only a slight sci-fi vibe to this mixture.

But

Given the origin of the first game (did you ever see the original gameplay? Back when it was running in... what, the Quake 2 engine?) I’d say this is the exception to the reboot rule. The game already has a foundation of changing dramatically before release.

Kinda like the old days of Left 4 Dead, in which the old “vocalise” command would let you trigger voice lines at will. Including scaring the crap out of your teammates by shouting “WITCH!” at random intervals. Or just screaming for no apparent reason.

But will it fix any of the (literally) thousands of bugs that were never, ever fixed the first time around?

Actually, I had a bit of an Id splurge recently - got Doom, Quake and Quake 2 all running on Windows 7.

For Quake, I used something called Quakespasm:

Oh, and like most of these source ports, GZDoom will run the other Doom engine games, like Heretic and Hexen. You just need the wad.

Now playing

GZ is the one I use for pretty much everything these days. Seems pretty universal. You can tweak so many options, it’s great (and I just did a test - you can change the FOV by typing “fov” and a number into the console). Personally, I like to turn off all the texture filtering and stuff - I prefer the grittier look of
