“Big Alternative” is worse than “big pharma” any day of the week. People spend money on supplements and natural and organic remedies that do nothing. In one past scandal, the “active” ingredient in some supplements were doses of real medicine mixed with garbage.

No, most of this stuff did not keep humans alive and evolving; it just removed some of the foolish and gullible from the gene pool. Some remedies worked, but few understood how it worked or could isolate the real medicine from the crap.
