Kids may be watching this stuff for the same reasons that adults do, because they are curious, or because it excites them or gives them pleasure. And this might include written material and fan fiction, not just visual material.

I’m confused, as well. I don’t understand why someone didn’t slap the living crap out of the racist witch.
Obviously, I’m not that concerned about Black Panther’s box office prospects.
Late reply. Feel free to use as needed to relieve distress at having to listen to science-ignorant chumps.
RE: It’s probably not going to make a huge amount in money in China either as a largely Black/African cast wont have much appeal there.
RE: It should just be called Evolutionary Science.
I guess that Rian Johnson has turned the Star Wars saga into a lame tale for our own times, in which everyone gets a trophy just for showing up. No one ever said that Yoda or Obi-Won or countless other Jedi were special or chosen ones. But the idea that anyone can be a hero is as arbitrary (and false) as the idea that…
The problem for me is that the revelation that Rey’s parents were nobodys, perhaps just Galactic trash, makes her abandonment cruel, and her sad counting the days until they came back for her, sad and callus. I didn’t need this in order to get to the somewhat silly and reductive idea that “Oh, boy, I’m a nobody, but…
Trump is plain racist evil. Period. That’s who you have to fight, today.
Let’s cut to the chase. If the deal had been, “bend the knee, accept the wall and we might give you DACA,” would everyone be happy with that?
I saw The Big Sick, and really enjoyed it. However, I think I might have enjoyed it more had it been more fictionalized. Let me say that I love films about this new generation of immigrant Americans (and I am generally tired of a lot of nostalgic wallow fests set in the 50s through 70s). But I wanted to learn more…
I will add both Columbus and Ingrid Goes West to my list of films to watch. I hopefully will see Lady Bird this weekend. I agree that Get Out led to a lot of stimulating conversations. I was a solid film and worked well as both a horror thriller and sly social commentary.
I’m not judging you, I’m judging your opinion. I didn’t see “Columbus,” but I’ve read some favorable reviews. You really think this should be a “Best Picture” contender? OK. Two other films you mentioned did receive nominations, so it is possible that one of your choices might win.
Actually, I was going to say that you barely have an “informed opinion,” but I wanted to be nice. “The Shape of Water” is nominated. I asked you for three movies you think would be Best Picture nominees to calibrate your opinion. I appreciate that you named “Blade Runner 2049.” How about at least two more?
If you haven’t seen all the pictures listed, you barely have an opinion. Of the films you have seen, name three that you think should be considered for Best Picture, if you had a vote.
Yawn. The calorie count of an authentic home made or street burrito is also pretty high. Obviously, the point is not to eat them “a couple of times a day.”
As is often the case, science fiction, in this case, “Futurama” got there first in an episode in which Fry gets “addicted” to a sex robot to the exclusion of any other social relationships with women.
RE: I spoke about emotional intelligence and emotional maturity in a different column, but the gist of it is that a lot of men lack the capacity for an emotionally healthy relationship with a woman.
I pretty much have irony down. You need to work on understanding the “both sides” fallacy.
Good points. I don’t agree that Rey’s skillfulness was established as well as you suggest, but many viewers accept this. But I had even more problems with this in “The Last Jedi,” where Rey can out-duel Snoke’s guards. But viewers always want to see a badass being a badass, no matter how plausible the set-up.
