I'm really surprised at this. These organizations (as far as I know) are filled with successful professionals. I would think participation while wearing their letters would lift the spirits of all those protesting, as in, the issue goes beyond respectability politics and affects everyone!

I say this with no malice at all: Gwen Stefani isn't doing a PhD in Asian Studies. I think it may be asking a lot of someone known for fashion and music to see beyond the superficial "decorative" nature of what she does. I believe her clothing line, LAMB, also came out around that time. So as with many celebs, their

Nevertheless, if you go by the biblical account, the Pharoah's daughter absolutely knew Moses was Hebrew (my guess is that they were already circumcising boy babies and/or this is projection by whomever recorded the story). She says "oh, look! Hebrew baby!" And Miriam brings Moses actual mother to nurse him!

We make the chewy kind every year, and I'm thinking we need to change it up. Higher yield, for one thing: it seems like there are a lot of cookie-related activities this year.

I'd love to do away with tipping all together and just have everyone make a living wage. No one's rent should depend on whether or not somebody likes their sammich.

Well, I'd challenge his stats on that, actually. He said SA had to do decades of work to achieve inequality, and I'd say the US has had a bit more time than that to entrench racism. And yeah, it was enshrined in the law and everything up until the sixties (18 and 19).

Oh, I forgot the headliner for this year: SAMOAS! They are turning forty this year, and as you can see from some of the other commenters, are well-loved. They're like macaroons with a chocolate layer.

I have to wonder if other writers would have wanted their names attached, as the allegations had been so successfully tamped down in the media and continued to be for years afterwards. Tina Fey may have allowed her name to be used as sole writer so that any heat would come at her alone, to protect less well-known

Frustratingly enough, they have not told us what the online processing fee will be OR the shipping costs— I don't think we'll know them until we see the sites ourselves for our kids (hopefully the 12th).

Growing up in the south, you'd think I'd remember being assigned to read Tom Sawyer et al in school, but I seem to only remember excerpts in our textbooks. I remember those stories more from Disney(?) movies on TV, as a kid. Of course, after I grew up and went back to them they told a TOTALLY different story.

So yes, I

The article itself notes a distinction between changing language in a book versus visual media. To change Mark Twain's writing is to try and make the book "current" and essentially meaningless. The book makes no sense if it doesn't take place in the horrifically racist south at that time, at a time when the n-word

There actually is a cookie purchase option called "Smiles for the Military" that gives a customer the option to buy cookies to be donated directly to military bases— so they're covered! It's not supposed to be a secret, but unless the Girl Scout tells you about it when she's selling cookies, how would you know? Not

I went to cookie training last night, and I get the impression that this is NOT going to be as it has been presented, as in "here's the one site for buying cookies"! It is that each individual scout will be able to send a link to her own site, and you can buy them there. So the revenue will still be earmarked for a

Isha, at the 2015 cookie sale training last night, we were told that ALL cookie sales begin on January 1st. Girls cannot enter sales online or anywhere else before that date— it's a big deal because some of these moms are pretty cutthroat (and it's genuinely not fair for some girls/troops to start before others).

Orderi

Scroll down to see my response to Dashleyincali for details on this year's cookie sales. I make the same offer to pay for your shipping!

FYI, good news/bad news. The good news is that this year, you can not only order your cookies through the link, but pay for them and have them delivered, too! Pretty sweet! The bad news is that they are going to tack on a fee for the online processing AND probably charge a buttload for the shipping.

The link will be

Expat, I asked last night about the international shipping*, and I expect that the answer will be "no". HOWEVER, once the sales link is active, I will post it for you. You'll be able to order and pay for your cookies online, but then when you select the way you want to receive them, choose "I want my cookies delivered

Maybe the poster was calling you "Rebecca" ironically, like the way David Letterman's fans sometimes call him "Regis"? Because you're that awesome.

That's a very good point. I'll bet there are quite a few men over the years who— over cigars and scotch, no doubt— heard every detail of BC's "conquests" without any prompting at all. I wish just one of them would come forward and break the "Man Code" to corroborate these women's stories— to bad Terry Crews can't go
