I think we basically agree. Religious ignorance definitely serves those who would hate; my only qualifier is that (as you point out), anti-Muslim feeling doesn't really need ignorance to thrive in this country.

I agree with you that many American Christians wouldn't accept the fact that Allah = God = Allah. I would hesitate to say "most," though, because it doesn't take much education to find out the basic tenets of Islam. Now, whether the Christians who actually know better wouldn't still be dismissive or condescending…

Here's an interesting historical aside (to me, anyway): the original followers of Islam were accused of "atheism" because they only had one god and called all the others false. Funny how definitions change.
