Your poem reminded me of the old Sting song "They Dance Alone" about women protesting the Pinochet regime. I feel so naive for thinking that could never happen in this country, but it is- just so pervasively and for so long that we're used to it.

I love that the YES advert focused on the future and positive change, and I love that it included people of various skin colors and accents (as in, it's not just rural folk or old people or any one group wanting independence).

Frank's sweet and all, but I'm so Team Jamie it's not even funny. All I got in the first episode was him wrapping his plaid around her, but that'll hold me until next episode, I reckon. I like that she obviously sees him as a boy in the first episode, kind of a dopey kid. Looking forward to her POV changing.

Just watched the video. That Sam's a bit of all right.

I've been thinking about the timing of this show and the big vote (though hasn't it already aired in Britain)? It's hard to imagine watching this show and voting against independence, but what do I know? My folks left Scotland around the same time Jamie & Claire did.

Has he ever made a sincere statement acknowledging his actions and shown contrition? I ask sincerely because I do not know. But if he hasn't, that would be a good place to start.

She looks more like a young Cyd Charisse than Audrey (which is obviously not an insult).

Bawling my eyes out. I hope it's just like this, Robin.

Holy shit, that image is huge! Sorry about that!

I think my blue Mayaris are adorable. I've worn all kinda Birks since 1988, but these are the only ones I thought were actually cute. But it's possible my mind is warped by the fact that I wear these shoes 99% of the time I wear any shoes.

Me too, but I think you might be wearing them wrong.

Oh my God, you guys. I am so, so sorry that this has been happening to you. And I want to thank you for what must be truly non-stop effort to keep it out of the comments, because I have yet to be confronted with this awfulness.

We went to the Highland Games a couple of years back to watch my friend's husband compete in the caber toss (and have awesome beer). He was wearing a "sporting kilt". I was really jealous of my friend that day.

I'd be more worried about the growing python population, myself.

This week's edition of Everyday Sexism:

I loved that book! The thing was, he told her he couldn't sit on any surface she had made "unclean," and she casually informed him when he came home later that she had made a point of sitting on every seat in the house while he had been gone. I loved her for that!

Well, Afghanistan is land-locked and I don't know if it has any big lakes, so I'm guessing it hasn't come up much. But I'm willing to bet they wouldn't even give people the right to parasail.

That makes more sense, thanks. What about music?
