I mostly disagree with your assessment of Beyond. It tried to bridge the gap between the popcorn flicks before it and the more philosophical Trek of old. It just didn’t entirely succeed.

Nah, it’s full of dry philosophy that people glaze over while they wait for the next shootout. I love that movie and its philosophy, but what people generally remember from it is the “naked” optical camo water fight, the tank, and the cyborg production line intro.

There would be no point in killing the heroes on the beach though. It would make Vader seem a little more ruthless if we get to see him kill someone we’ve already made an attachment with, but by that point, they were irrelevant to the plot. At least here, Vader was going after something useful.
