I'm sorry, I what point did I call her racist? Rhetorical question. I know that I didn't. In fact, I said:
*critique*
Yes. Just like I'm proud of Hattie McDaniel for winning an Oscar in 1939 as a black woman, even though the only roles available to her were to play the nannies and maids — even though she lived in a country where she didn't have civil rights. It was still an accomplishment that her acting was recognized— that she…
I officially no longer care about you getting taken down on here. You deserve what you get. I tried. You wont listen. You refuse to grow from this. You should be thankful that all these people wrote trying to help you understand what started out as a small mistake, but has now revealed all kinds of layers of…
That is an outright lie. You are desperate now. Just back away and take some time to think. Seriously. Ive noticed you on other threads and liked your comments. You aren't a bad person. But you are wrong here. And you aren't doing yourself any favors by digging in.
Short answer: yes. You most definitely did miss something here.
So you are unable to take pride in her accomplishment of landing this incredible deal — one that makes her the highest paid woman on TV? If there was an article lauding the success of Hispanic actors, and how far they have come in television — how billion dollar brands now actually choose Latin women to market their…
So. . . I never said that there are artists that don't deserve coverage. Thanks for realizing your fault by inserting a quote from me that says that, to the extent some people aren't covered, it's probably because they lack talent or mass appeal!
If you had written, "I'd love to hear about some less popular artists," instead of, "lets stop talking about Bey," no one would have cared. But you clearly don't care as much about getting publicity for smaller acts as tearing down Beyonce.
What? Please, explain to me who I said is unworthy of coverage. I'd love to know.
What. Musician?
The only person arguing that anyone is unworthy of coverage for any reason is the OP. Other than that, I have no idea what you're debating.
Actually, there have been several Jezebel articles defending Cyrus. (I, personally, find her brand of sexuality to carry alot of personal agency and to not court the traditional male gaze). But no one is saying "lets not talk about Miley, she doesn't deserve to have the floor." You are the one attempting to shut…
Jezebel is not a music promotion site. It is a pop culture site. It discusses things that are already popular, and analyzes them through a feminist lense. This album is setting records left and right. It is in no way being "over" covered. Almost a million people bought this thing in three days. On presale.
Sigh.
Jezabel often writes about Janelle Monae. They don't write about her as much as Beyonce because she is 1/10000 as successful. I dont know who Valerie June is. That fact might have something to do with why she isn't covered on Jezabel.
I'm not sure that I feel the same way about feminism, but very interesting analogy/perspective.
I agree. I do think there is some correlation between talent and appeal (obviously), but of course there are talented people who don't make it and vice versa. Doesn't really affect my argument in the least.
