Sorry, my post started with me agreeing with you that the OP has his facts mixed up, but I got into the whole Sega Saturn thing and must have edited out that part before posting.

The main reason PlayStation dominated was because it had the "cool" factor. Games like WipeOut, with it's dance soundtrack, fast gameplay and futuristic design really grabbed people's attention. Non-hardcore gamers lapped it up. And once you have that demographic locked down, you win.

Alien 3 looked better for SNES in stills but the game played faster and smoother on Genesis. The music is way, way better on Genesis though. Completely different to the SNES version.
