haha. It'll be pretty tough for us to arrive at any sort of consensus if you don't buy into post-modernist philosophy. My education, and personal viewpoint are seeded pretty deeply in a post-modern sensibility. The fallacy of authorial intent is verymuch an idea from that camp. Here's a pretty succinct article about

There you go! Thanks for the info!

You're probably right, and I definitely applaud any efforts to generate a civil conversation around issues of cultural diversity and identity.

Although I'm never one to question someone's right to be offended by something (we are all human, and are agitated by what agitates us), I believe this article walks a dangerous line in terms of not standing up to its own logic. The author makes a very thoughtful and convincing argument about the toxicity of

Rest in peace sweet prince.

In alot of ways yes. Yoshi's story dabbled in alot of different medium to built it stages though. Cloth, cardboard, denim, clay. There was a load of different stuff. Though th remain rendered characters definitely had a clay appearance to them. It's a hallmark of the Yoshi games, really, to dabble with textures.

I'm actually pretty grateful for the 2014 timeframe. The rest of this year is pretty packed with treats already. Hopefully it'll come out in the late Winter/early Spring slow season.

It almost looks like it's made of clay to me. I know that it's not, but the way that the characters and objects are rendered really throw off that vibe.

I genuinely thought that this would never happen. I'm really interested to learn more about how they were able to work around the copyright concerns surrounding the game's music that had prevented a re-release in the past. I wonder if any of that will ever come to light.

Yoshi's Island DS was one of the first games that really sold me on the dual screen concept. I remember the stilt levels where Yoshi was on the top screen and your stilts stretched all the way down to the floor on the bottom screen. You had to evade birds in the sky while making sure shy guys didn't trip you up

So predictions folks? I'm pretty sure there's going to be something Luigi related going on . . . as in Japan this Nintendo Direct is subtitled "Luigi Special 2" or some such business. But there have also been some pretty tasty Bravely Default rumors floating around since PAX. Could today be the day? What about Level

It wasn't a particularly great game per se, but Koji Igarashi's Nano Breaker was nothing if not "over the top." Goofy sci-fi premise and a gimmicky experience system that was measured in how many gallons of blood you spilled. After most fights, you could hardly see the floor. Flashy lightsaber weapons. Fountains of

Wow. I really thought that I was the only man in the West who appreciated this game. The music in the first level is just so good. Who would have thought to build the combat system in an action game around the visual style of hong-kong wire action? Brilliant.

The extent to which everything that I see from Blood Dragon looks like the things that go on inside of my head 24/7 is really starting to alarm me.

Thanks for the intel. I'll temper my expectations accordingly.

I'm sure it's worth playing. I definitely never questioned that. I've got my copy preorderd. :)

Exactly. I'll admit that I haven't sunk more than afew hours into either game, but you've perfectly described my initial impressions. I absolutely adore Xenoblade, and am a Monolith fanboy to the 10th degree. I just felt that Last Story was a bit better. Overall, Sakaguchi's game reminds me alot of FFXII, which is

I'm glad to hear that the combat is fun. The time limit thing has me a bit worried myself. Time limits are something that I've detested in games ever since I was small. I like games that give me the freedom to explore at my own pace. The only thing that's pushing me to give this game a try despite the timer is the

Jason, are you going to be doing a formal review of Pandora's Tower? I've read afew writeups that compare it pretty favorably to Cavia's Nier. Flawed, but thematically worthwhile. Seeing as you and I both take the controversial stance that Last Story was a more impressive game that Xenoblade, I'm curious to hear
