The absolute cheapest and easiest ways to shed pounds are to: (1) ditch the spare and associated kit - this will save anywhere from 40 -100 pounds, depending on the vehicle. ; (2) Install a lightweight battery for the track - this will save 20-40 pounds and shouldn’t cause issues on the track where you don’t need a

I’d love too see the cost/benefit analysis on this. I’m an avid DIY’er, but nothing sours a project like later learning you spent time and money to solve a problem when you’d have been better off just buying something off of the shelf.

Until FCA starts excluding people for off-roading their Jeeps, thus negating the warranty

There are not many guarantees in life.  But you can guarantee that, in 5 years, this will be the cheapest way, by far, to get into a Ferrari V8.  You can also predict that, in 10 years, one of these will be ~$12,000.

If it had worked, either no one would remember the play or he would have been praised for “making a gutsy call.”

I wonder how much cheaper/easier it was to make those dog dish wheels?

On the contrary, consumers will be able to cross shop dealers as they all have the same access to the same cars.

It will be interesting to see how much of Tesla’s “cool factor” is stolen by the E-Tron, Taycan, and whatever MB brings to the table. Electric cars are really not practical as an “only” car for most consumers/households because of range issues, especially in cold or hot climates where the heating and cooling systems

I just don’t get frats. “Let us treat you like a fucking animal so we can be friends! Oh, and you have to pay us a lot of money.” Fucking lame.

There is only one real answer here: A $12,000 V70R in prime condition and use the rest to keep it maintained. They are simply wonderful and practical cars and have no issue doing 110+ all day, in safety and comfort.

70 miles of excess range is plenty. I have often got my Leaf home with the mileage and battery indicators showing “—-” (it displays this when you get below about 5% or 5 miles remaining).

Plot twist... competitors STILL don’t have any products you can actually buy right now that are truly competitive with what Tesla sells.

I’m not talking about range issues leaving people stranded, I am talking about “my car doesn’t fucking work today and no one seems to know why.”

Regardless, Tesla is firmly established as “the” EV to own because they are committed to EV’s and only EV’s

Awesome! Another hypercar that will be driven less than 100 miles per year by 80% of the buyers!

We may be at that point

I love Tesla.  I agree that Musk is a genius.  Where we differ is that I don’t think Musk can pay back that debt that Tesla incurred because there simply aren’t enough car buyers to do so.

A startup simply isn’t comparable to an established business on profitability.

What you fail to grasp is that the Leaf, Volt, and Bolt are made by manufacturers who are using them as side projects while they make money building ICE cars. They really don’t even need to turn a profit on them - and likely don’t - because they make a great impact on CAFE. That allows GM, in particular, to make
