Eh.....$500M is relatively small in automotive development terms. You couldn’t develop a new mass market ICE engine or trans for that. This seems like a patent or even a pure engineering expertise buy. Contracting out a drivetrain engineering project to Rivian at $500M is much cheaper than doing it in house.
