Another mystery indeed. It sucks ass. Seriously.

The face of someone who sees herself on the jumbotron when she's wanted for murder a few towns over.
A gay man showering with a bunch of straight men is nothing like a straight man showering with women. Maybe it would be if we lived in some kind of alternate universe where gay men were constantly sexually assaulting and degrading straight men, but until that happens, you need to get the hell out of here with that.
Read up on redlining. By forcing blacks into certain parts of towns, where banks wouldn't give them loans, we prevented them from taking part in the biggest investment most people make (successful home ownership). Combined with funding our schools by local (rather than national or state taxes), this has perpetuated…
Watching the Wire literally changed my worldview. I was taught, and totally bought into, the "it's their problem" way of thinking. After watching that show I couldn't help but do more reading and research about race and poverty. We all should be ashamed of ourselves for allowing things to be this bad in 2014.

Good lord, that first run-on-sentence is torturous. Great perspective, though.
You beat me to Exley. A Fan's Notes - while tangentially about football - has twice the real pain and human feeling than all these other books mentioned combined. I just cannot get into the Roth/Updike/Ford/Russo/ to a lesser extent DeLillo pissing and moaning any more.
