I love "science."

@em.: Raccoons are like that too. When I lived in a house in the woods I'd hear them mating in a half-fallen down shed out back. It sounded like something from horror movie.

@glitterati345: My aunt is a divorce attorney too and she has tons of those clients, but she says she just sits on the phone and thinks "You already know it's $150 an hour, pal."

@greatsheelephant: That's true, too. When I come out of monogamous relationships and have to go back to using them, I always think "Ick. Back to the rubbers." But, yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do if you're going to be dating around.

@resplendent.bitch: I know, it seems weird to me too, esp. because I think of those people as more "grown-up" than me, and I can't believe they don't have that same certainty we have. I think it just goes to show how much of a person's sexual awareness and behavior is based on early experience/education. Hard to

@resplendent.bitch: I think some of it has to do with how people are sexualized/socialized early on. I'm 35 and it was CONSTANTLY drilled into me that I needed to use condoms to protect myself from AIDS. So we're more likely to use condoms and feel comfortable incorporating them into our sex lives.

@SeaTalk: Right, but I think the problem here is that older people of both genders don't seem to realize that there are reasons for wearing condoms that don't have to do with pregnancy.

@Hortense Smith: Yes, "wait a full year" is definitely the advice 12-step programs give to people in recovery from addictions.—-

@Buggie: AIDS was mostly seen as a "gay disease" in the early 80s, and was not widespread in the hetero community, so if you were 25 and hetero, AIDS wasn't really on your radar as a potential threat.

@sableized (as though nothing could fall): Heh. The whole "OMG, if you're over 40 you need Viagra" meme isn't true, but for a lot of older dudes the time it takes to get up, go to the medicine cabinet or root around in the hall closet or purse or wallet or whatever can be...a problem. Let's just say you should keep

@Hooplehead: Yeah, that movie was really ahead of its time. Drag queens are more mainstream, but I can't imagine a cast of current actors who would play it straight (so to speak) the way those three did.

One of my over-50 male friends once said of condoms, "Once you pull it on, there's not much left to pull it onto."

When Miss America contestants wear dresses with cut-outs to show off their skin art I might start watching the pageant.

I loved him in "To Wong Foo." That was the best acting he ever did. Campy and draggy, but he gave his character real dignity and never played her as a limp-wristed stereotype.

@CaitalinnaDaisy: Yeah, and you know she's the kind of client who racks up billable hours by calling 10 times a day with some new freak-out.

I hope Danielle Staub's lawyers insist on being paid up front.

Kudos for the non-white models as well.
