The underlying premise of this article - that arts awards should not have national qualifications - could only come from an author sitting in the center of an empire against whose hegemony those qualifications were introduced in the first place. You’re the empire here.

My favourite line was this:

This. Also, how the hell is “Artists are of British or Irish nationality if they hold a passport for either the United Kingdom or Ireland and/or a birth certificate from the United Kingdom or Ireland” either haphazard or an example of “racist designations of citizenship”.

“Sawayama tells Vice that she could have given up her Japanese passport to qualify for the ceremonies but chose not to.”

The BRITS was established specifically to promote British and Irish acts in the face of American hegemony of the music industry, hence the rule. If they didn’t restrict it by nationality then loads of Americans would get nominated, and possibly win, thereby negating the whole point of the awards.

“Black women are so unprotected & we hold so many things in to protect the feelings of others w/o considering our own.”

I know this makes me sound like an old Auntie (which I am) but, like, she’s not going to hang out with that young man anymore, right? The one who brought his gun to the pool party.  He doesn’t seem like a good friend.

As a general rule of thumb I tell everyone even slightly interested in performing a physical activity DO YOGA. Its bloody important to have a flexible body if you want a body that can perform.

You know what is always left out of these lists. KDramas. Netflix has seriously upped their game with KDrama collaborations. Not only have they managed to bring on older highly rated Kdramas, but of the highest rated Kdramas on cable, four of the top 10 are Netflix colabs. Sure they’ve also brought in some stinkers,

See this is why I’m nervous about flights resuming to the islands. We cannot afford to have a large outbreak. And aren’t there rules that need to be followed? How is no one checking him?

I picked up Dr. Who during college back in the early-oo’s. Eccleston was the first Doctor I ever saw, and he was fine—very different from the rest of the Doctors (as I’ve come to learn). However, Tennant is, will forever remain my Doctor. Holy shit he was good.

For some reason I can’t access the post thing, so I’ll reply.

at lease pendants aren’t known for turning around willy nilly throughout the day, can you imagine if your buddhist swastika could just become a nazi swastika because you leaned over and it spun?  OUTRAGEOUS

She’s like, “Well, you know, the character, as written, she’s been to university and is educated.”

Using passive aggressiveness (aka trolling) to fight systematic racism is dumb. If satire were effective, MLK’s I Have A Dream Speech would have been a stand up set.

Cohen might want to read Vonnegut’s Mother Night. “We must be careful about what we pretend to be.”

It is impossible to parody these people & probably a mistake to try

Agreed. I’m not nearly as busy as you are, but if I don’t write down what I’m doing and when I’m doing it, my forward momentum derails. I’ve tried online scheduling, but it doesn’t work for me. Some planners sell self-improvement and inspiration/aspiration more than others, but that doesn’t render the concept any less

To be quite frank, part of the unnecessary rehabilitation is on Christian Cooper, himself. I’m black, so I’ll police his response without feeling any guilt. He was an integral part of this rehab. We have black people have to stop falling into this pressured default of forgiveness or guilt when we’re made victims of by

Thanks, I hate it (and them)!
Plus, frozen vegetables are absolutly not “bullshit”! bBcause they’re flash frozen right after picking, they can frequently be more nutritious than the “fresh” equivalent, which has been sitting for who knows how long slowly decomposing.
