Same. I was like, “Ryan Gosling has children?”

Has Jezebel also succumbed to the horrible trend of using “female” as a noun, instead of saying “woman”? I know you know better, Jez.

Jemisin’s books have been recommended to me by several people over the years, and I finally got around to reading the Dreamblood Duology, which was soooo gooooood! I’ve heard that The Fifth Season is even better, so it’s definitely on my (ever-growing) to read list.

Even now, the perfection of State Change just leaves me breathless. I re-read it recently and loved it just as much as the first time; knowing the ending enabled me to see all the little clues I’d missed on first read.

I’ll start with a disclaimer: I’m not a big fan of short stories.

I overheard some folk talking about Stormzy a couple of months ago, looked him up, found the video for “Know Me From” and immediately added him to my list of faves.

A lot of people in the comments are like “Why is a 7 year old wearing make-up? Why is a 7 year old taking 15 minutes to put on make-up?” There’s nothing in the article that says that Zadie Smith’s daughter was putting on make-up; it says Smith noticed that her daughter was spending a lot of time “looking in mirrors”.

The article doesn’t say that the 7 year old spends 15 minutes (or any minutes) putting on make-up. It says that Zadie Smith noticed her daughter used to spend a lot of time looking at herself in the mirror and told her that an obsession with appearance, which also manifests (in people other than her daughter) in the

I didn’t get the impression from the article that her daughter is wearing make-up; it says Smith was concerned because her daughter spends a lot of time looking in the mirror. I think the make-up bit comes in with Smith extrapolating this early interest in physical appearance to a potential situation when her daughter

*whispers* While I think Lemonade (the visual album) was a brilliant piece of art and a consummate representation of the best of who Beyoncé is as a musician/peformer/artist, I didn’t love the music. I thought BEYONCÉ was better; I was stunned (as was Beck, I think) that she didn’t win the Best Album Grammy that

I get so excited about thoughtful portrayals of the Caribbean in media; I’m going to watch the hell out of this. Clover, thank you so much for bringing it to my attention!

These kids made an incredible inspirational promise to themselves and each other, and they kept it. I’m proud of them.

Is that real? Did she really do THAT?

Clip-ins, hair pieces, extensions, wigs even. Or maybe just magic.

I know, right? I read the headline and was like, AMANDLA! Then got to the end and was like, How come no Amandla?

Her lyrics these days are shockingly bad, and this song is not good. I liked Weezy’s verse the best, but that’s not saying much because the other verses were kind of shite.

That’s probably a better take on it. Whatever it is with him, it’s annoying as hell.

Right? It’s like it’s almost pathological with him, and it’s like he’s so hyper self-aware that that it goes right around the bend into being utterly fucking clueless. He’s such a douche (in that he seems to think that he’s good and refreshing, but really he is bad and upsetting).

I figured it was something like that, looking for countries that matched your spectrum the closest. Interesting, and thanks for explaining!

Nice! Dominica Carnival has this kind of vibe and energy too; I loved it the year I was there, it was so different to what I’m used to at Kadooment. I’m for sure going to try to get to Grenada for Spice Mas one of these years.
