I grew up in fairly rural New England and then went to college in Philadelphia. I was just reminiscing earlier today about the fucking extraordinary amount of fighting that went on between late teens/early twenties males in Philadelphia in the 1990s. I don’t know if it’s still like that among that age group.

I would read ten more.

“Well, you know brother JJ, the word “Basketball” didn’t exist until 1891, either. Before that, it was called ‘leathertass’ and pretty much the only shoe they had available at the time were Reebok pumps, but not the Dee Brown ones...get this...they only had the MICHAEL CHANG TENNIS REEBOK PUMPS. Ok? So there’s that.

And

Listen, the Patriots have won five Super Bowls and seven AFC titles under Brady/Belichick. I think what Simmons and other Patriots fans are reasonably asking for, in light of this success, is that all articles about the team should only contain information that amplifies the good feelings that Patriots fans already

I am a Boston sports fan and literally the number one love of my entire life has been talking about sports with people. It brings joy to my soul.

One difference between Simmons dropping that bit and a reporter giving the example you describe is that a reporter is beholden to an editor or editorS who make judgements and essentially vouch for the credibility of the unnamed source the reporter is quoting. That quality-control mechanism is not mistake-proof, but it

I know this one: Sean Connery, Officer and a Gentleman. BAM! Nailed it. Let’s do some famous SNL lines. “Allo! Mawtin Shawt heeaah playing Jiminy Glickett! I’m a heavy guy, BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!!”

Classic. Classic pop culture. Why I love Simmons, TBH.

If you like Simmons a lot, then you are wrong.

This is the weirdest question.

That is amazing logic. Teams can avoid having to interview minority candidates by deciding on a specific white guy.

Yes, but that player was NOT crippled when the Celtics came out lifeless against the Bulls and needed an injury to Rondo to save them from a major embarrassment. That happened too...don’t forget about that. I am 100% sure that Stevens himself probably would say there’s something there that he as a coach needs to do

Yeah, I’m not conceding that it’s because of Stevens’ coaching, I’m speculating that that’s one part of the NBA he hasn’t figured out yet; he will. I think he’s a top-two coach in the league, but it’s a little hard to really rubber-stamp that one without a stronger playoff track record in place yet.

Come on, man. You don’t have to be that harsh and all fighty about my point. I know they overachieved due in large part to the coaching of Stevens. That doesn’t mean Stevens has nothing left to accomplish as a coach or we can’t say “I still want to see X from a Brad Stevens team.”

A couple years ago, my (then) three-year-old son put three DVDs and two business cards into the DVD slot on my iMac. When I asked him what happened, he said that “the wind probably blew them in there.”

Yeah, I definitely agree that something along the lines of what you say is probably the case; I will be slightly nervous about it until I see it in the spring.

I’m over forty years old. That gives me the legal right to refer any athlete as “The kid from...” It’s not like there’s a fucking machine in my pocket that can give me the full name of anyone I think of in two seconds, man. Sometimes I just need to get a point across and the details are not important.

I am an enormous Celtics fan; the thought of adding Marvin Bagley or the 7'1 Bahamian from Arizona in this year’s draft makes me sweat. There’s also an increasingly valuable Memphis pick that will be unprotected as of 2021.

Only a freshman unpoisoned by any previous big-stage mistakes would have had the glorious balls to make that throw right there.

Sounds like the Patriots really wish they could go back to those halcyon days when the team’s biggest problem was having an active serial killer in the locker room!

Why is that scary?
