Priest was just being a jerk. There are no Papal edicts that say a newly converted Catholic and a life-long Catholic can’t have a wedding mass. My SIL is Jewish, but she and her husband had a full mass. Life long Catholic here.

That lack of a support structure is HUGE. We have (I’m a DV legal services attorney) seen so much that the difference between those who end up fine in the end, and those who end up homeless, on drugs, in jail, or separated from their children are the ones who have family/friends/community.

I am DV attorney in the Bay Area, and we have the same problems. Housing is a MAJOR issue here, and people end up going from shelter to shelter, county to county.

I agree. I went to catholic school and although we had mass sometimes it was not all Jesusy like this school. I would venture to say this school is very outside of the mainstream of catholic schools.

He’s like an alien that doesn’t know how to human yet, and is getting very confused and frustrated.

Camp David is different. It is actually owned by the government and used as a “vacation” White House. Since it is out of the way and already secure, it is an easy place for the president to go, and take along foreign dignitaries.

This happens all the time. If you can’t find someone to serve them, it will be dismissed. She could have asked for an extension or file again. She didn’t lose. There’s is nothing to see here.

Problem is that when the wealthy get tax cuts, they give to the symphony or the opera, but conveniently forget the poor. Or, they start their own non-profits that exist for their own ego and not the work they claim to do, thereby taking money from the non-profits that know how to do the work, or their give their money

A lot of us already rely on a partner’s salary to make ends meet. It sucks that our work is already valued so little that we can barely pay a living wage, and now they just want to kick us in the teeth.

I am a DV attorney at a legal services agency. Thankfully we aren’t funded by VAWA. However, many of my colleagues will be without a job, and women are literally going to die. This not only cuts funding for lawyers, shelters and hotlines, but also for police departments, prosecutors, probation departments and courts.

Wow. I don’t understand why she didn’t fight this case, if a default was actually entered. This seems an easily defensible case; “anti-heartbalm” suit and all..Thanks for responding!

Little confused here.. he got a $10 million default judgment against the ex-wife? I can’t find anything else about that, and it would be insane if she actually didn’t respond and now has to pay him $10 million for moving on with her life.

Got the Dorrie Greenspan cookies book for Christmas so I am in the ,idleness of a batch of chocolate chips. Starting with the simple stuff.

I was a Senate intern as well, and I loved answering the phones. People are nuts and it was kind of fun to talk to people who wanted a federal law injecting chips into babies so that they’d never be kidnapped, but the best past time was when I could a actually help someone. My senator was the best and his community

DV legal advocate here too, and I totally agree. I am so wary of men, and now I feel like so many other women are hitting that point. I will never trust men like I trust women.

I’ve read that book so much that it fell apart, and I rarely read books more than once. Easter bunnies make me sad now, too.

And jurisdictional issues! If this isn’t forum shopping, I don’t know what is.

I am generally a lurker, but I wanted to say that I like you and think you are super smart. I am a white woman, but I will not make nice with racists. I will lose family and friends over this and I am A.O.K. with it. I am also tired of hearing about how poor white men got that way because of the big bad government,

Oh my shit. I have Crohn’s too. I didn’t think about that until this minute.

I’d like to echo this. I know first hand of some very local non-profits that were in danger of losing federal funding, and it looke pretty certain they will be cut off in January. Any local social services agency will start to bear the burden of the federal cuts. Please give very close to home!
