Thanks! But as I said, I do fine for myself.

I agree. I don't like how in the discourse over IR, it's just assumed that there has to be a White partner involved. In a minority majority country, the default IR partner for a POC shouldn't have to be White.

This means racism is over, right?

Nice to see Asian guys break stereotypes.

Glad to see you're able to see things from both sides!

He's certainly no Godfrey Gao. But that still doesn't cancel out the fact that Western society thinks that Asians are a hyperfeminine race, which is why WM/AF are acceptable while AM/WF are just "wrong." You'll notice that a lot of White guys, especially those with Asian fetishes, are heavily invested in this idea.

Yup, check out the Creepy White Guys tumblr. You'll quickly realize that the people who have the most invested in the idea of the emasculated small-dicked Asian man are White men.

It's like John Smith over there.

What about the fact that a lot of people have no real idea what 5'7" of 6' actually looks like? The proliferation of height-exaggerators certainly contributes to this problem.

Hey, welcome to the life of an Asian guy! If we're not that attractive, then we might as well be leper morlocks. If we're hot, then we're deemed good enough to be considered as attractive as average white guys.

Feminization? Is that so many contenders like the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers have been devastated by injuries?

As I said, the movie itself in the isolate isn't a problem. It's the fact that so many of these movies get made. The media is a zero-sum platform, in that representation for one group must mean less representation for another because there's only a limited amount of funding and attention spans.

A little speck of progress is nothing to become complacent about. And many of those "Black movies" were made with unenthusiastic studio backing and low expectations. I bet a lot of them had to find outside financing as well. The system is still very much against spotlighting the stories of women and minorities.

You can't just single out a specific movie because as I said, it's only a problem when it's in the aggregate and structural in nature. What I'm saying is that a movie like Her is not problematic in and of itself; it's only problematic when so many other movies are also like it.

Most auditions specifically call for Caucasian actors/actresses. The problem is structural.

A specific movie can be reflective of the movie industry. It's not an either/or proposition.

Funny how we've gone from a world where there was open and contemptuous racism to one where there's apparent so little racism that everyone can just be as racist as fuck and that'd be okay.

I'm not gonna say that your race/gender disqualifies your opinion, but you should realize that your race/gender does give you some blind spots.

Are you a white guy?

A movie asking us to sympathize with a flawed, perhaps unlikeable White dude. That's definitely never been done before!
