The saves thing is completely stupid, no argument here. But our manager is so fucking shitty that he has his nth inning guy all the way down to like the 6th. So, “heart of the lineup coming; I better get Solis warm because Drew is my 8th inning guy.” God Matt Williams is a shitty manager.

Matt Williams sucks at the bullpen so hard that he’ll still make sure he uses Drew in stupid ways. He’ll gram Solis to pitch against the likes of Trout and Pujols, and then bring Drew in for whoever the hell else plays for the Angels (not a diss, I can just only be aware of so many teams and still kinda get my job

Agreed. It sucks to be Drew here, and it’s understandable that he’s pissed. That being said, Rizzo got Papelbon for the price of a decent burrito; and the Phillies kicked in some money to help pay for it.

I think the money thing is likely being a bit overblown. Tyler Clippard is the 9th highest paid reliever in MLB and he basically hasn’t closed since 2012. It hasn’t hurt his arbitration rates in the least that he isn’t closing games. Drew will get paid. He’s a proven closer, with good numbers. I think he’ll be fine.

If you’ve watched them all season, you’d realize they haven’t had their lineup healthy for a single game all year. And most of the year, they’ve either played big contributers hurt, or those guys have actually been on the DL. If you think the offensive production of the season so far, reflects what it’s likely to be

You forget, we have Matt Williams managing the team her in DC, and Papelbon giving up a run just means Mattie will find a way to make sure Papelbon pitches in ever dumber situations. He’d probably move him to starter.

And they call soccer the beautiful game.

Removing the nets is taking it a bit too far. Nobody could sit behind home plate and react to the speeds that are often seen there; there’s a reason the ump and catcher are wearing gear. Other than that, I agree with you though. I hate seeing people sitting there dicking around and not watching the game.

oof... I won’t ever sit in that area with my kids. I will occasionally sit near the field on a baseline, but at least in the outfield. Even then, I still make sure I sit to the inside of them, and am careful about when I turn away from the at bat.

Wow.

Fair enough. I appreciate accuracy when it comes to reporting too :-)

Jesus man... I was just trying to help someone out that clearly couldn’t fucking listen to it, and I didn’t feel like putting on my headphones, clicking the video, and carefully transcribing what some jackass on the radio said just to help out a fellow reader. Why the fuck does this bother you so much?

If they actually attend any classes, then sure.

OK... I probably worded my snarky response to a snarky “baseball players aren’t educated” comment poorly (or left off a lot of context). Look... I’m not trying to say athletes aren’t intelligent. I’m saying that “academics” might not be a priority for many, regardless of the amount of college education they may have

I think we’re actually in agreement here.

Because I listened to his comment yesterday, and didn’t remember the word for word quote.

In case you weren’t aware, ‘intelligence’ and ‘education’ mean different things. Hope that clears things up for you.

Of course, but the same can be said about all sports. I was going to add “Of course there are exceptions, but they’re so rare as to be meaningless in this discussion” to my original comment, but deleted it (not sure why). If anything I’d argue that the minor leagues make baseball players a little more well rounded and

I hope that you’re not suggesting that because football and basketball players went to “college” that they’re more educated. Because that’s just dumb. How about we agree that pretty much none of our professional athletes are actually educated?

Paraphrasing: “It doesn’t take a genius to run a baseball team. I mean c’mon, 1/3 of the players are Dominicans...”
