It’s all just for the optics. Like most of his joke of a presidency.

So? Nothing like groveling in person.

In this case, Miata is not always the answer. ND.

Here’s the thing, Nissan was pretty successful with the first generation Titan; at least they were when it was still pretty fresh. The problem here was that they let the first gen linger too long, and then the second gen just wasn’t good enough. I mean, yeah, it’s hard to go up against the big three, but like most

The supply / demand curve is not a phenomenon the government should get involved in.

LOL, how many decades have these practices been going on? Why now?

I think you’re right.  For even the small cars on the market now (Corolla, Civic, etc.), why would a manufacturer put “rare” chips in those when they can put them in Ridgelines and Tundras for double the profit?

Hybrid and especially Plug-In Hybrid is indeed an excellent choice to make at this point, because you have something that does not have the up-front cost of a battery only EV, and still drastically reduces fuel consumption. There are stories of people who bought plug-in Wranglers who didn’t even notice until they

Yeah I remember reading about the 3.5L + MT Altimas that were pretty impressive for price vs. performance back years ago. I guess we can blame Carlos Ghosn for the downfall of Nissan / Infinity?? They didn’t use to suck...

Probably closer to 25 years. It’s probably one of the oldest V6 series engines still in production, and one of the fastest-revving V6 engines.

Bummer to hear about this. The J-series is a pretty phenomenal engine as a whole and has been incredibly reliable for duration of its 20-ish year production run.

Can we please declare war on oil companies now? Weve declared war on FAR less horrible people.

That wouldn’t need to be the standard everywhere. Most people I’m guessing would be satisfied with similar performance to refueling with gas, 300-350 miles in 5-10 minutes.

I’d argue this is the biggest deterrent for EVs at the moment, even if would be buyers don’t realize it.  I’ve spoken to many people that have offered several reasons why they don’t want an EV and I always say “what if you got 250-300mi of range but could top off in 5 minutes like a gas car?” and they all think about

500 mile ranges and/or 5 minute recharge times are going to be the tipping point. If automakers can’t get there with a reasonably priced vehicle the EV revolution is not going to happen as advertised.

We need to get our heads out of the ground and just build series hybrids. Why we haven’t started making true series hybrids is beyond me.

Battery EVs are just so, so dumb. It’s not far from being a scam to fleece well-meaning but weak-minded people. If we want to reduce CO2 emissions from cars, a much better way to do this is to focus on scaling the production of carbon-neutral synthetic gasoline replacements. This technology already exists (and Porsche

Listen, I’ve given you some shit before about some of your opinions and boy do I love starring comments that take the piss out of ya. But by god is this the best article I’ve read on this site in a very long time. Great writing and a nice little love letter to one of the great gear head saviors.

PB&J.

Your story sounds like mine, Grew up outside Cleveland, Dad went to vocational school and became a mechanic. Bought his first used set of tools from someone retired. Used money he saved from fixing up and selling a couple cars before he graduated.
